{"id":2171,"date":"2018-12-06T05:30:54","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T05:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/?p=2171"},"modified":"2018-12-06T05:30:54","modified_gmt":"2018-12-06T05:30:54","slug":"connect-to-wifi-network-via-command-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/connect-to-wifi-network-via-command-line\/","title":{"rendered":"Connect to WiFi network via command line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Easiest way is to use the Network Manager nmtui tool<\/p>\n<pre>nmtui<\/pre>\n<p>It gives you a &#8220;command line GUI&#8221; to search and select your preferred WiFi network.<\/p>\n<p>Alternate way is to use the iw tools.<\/p>\n<p>Scan for available WiFi networks<\/p>\n<pre>iwlist scan<\/pre>\n<p>Connect with iwconfig, replace WiFiName with your WiFi name.\u00a0 Note this only works with open networks.<\/p>\n<pre>iwconfig wlan0 essid WiFiName<\/pre>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to get an address now, so run<\/p>\n<pre>dhclient<\/pre>\n<p>Check if your DNS is working.\u00a0 If not, as a &#8220;hack&#8221; manually add it to \/etc\/resolv.conf and restart the networking service.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo echo \"nameserver 8.8.8.8\" &gt;&gt; \/etc\/resolv.conf\r\nsudo service networking restart<\/pre>\n<p>Your not supposed to manually put the nameservers in resolv.conf.\u00a0 But it works in a pinch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Easiest way is to use the Network Manager nmtui tool nmtui It gives you a &#8220;command line GUI&#8221; to search and select your preferred WiFi network.
