{"id":1555,"date":"2017-02-15T05:50:33","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T05:50:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/?p=1555"},"modified":"2017-02-15T05:57:11","modified_gmt":"2017-02-15T05:57:11","slug":"ubuntu-16-04-login-screen-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/ubuntu-16-04-login-screen-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Ubuntu 16.04 Login Screen Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This post is not meant to be a how to, but rather a compilation commands that could be helpful in trying to fix issues with the login screen after an upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>These commands should be executed from a prompt, you can get to one using the ctrl+alt+f1 (you can replace f1 with any of the function keys from 1-7), or you can boot up from recovery, or you could mount the drive and chroot into it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reinstall Desktop and Login Manager<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install --reinstall lightdm ubuntu-desktop<\/pre>\n<p>If your using using Gnome Shell<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install --reinstall gdm3 gnome-shell<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Reconfigure lightdm, set it as the default login manager<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Replace GDM with LightDM<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get remove gdm3 \r\nsudo apt-get install lightdm<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Installing GDM (Gnome Login Manager)<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install gdm3<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Remove Intel video and Plymouth<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel plymouth<\/pre>\n<p>Reboot, get to a prompt and reinstall login manager, replace lightdm with whatever one your using<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install --reinstall lightdm<\/pre>\n<p>Reinstall Intel video and Plymouth<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel plymouth<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Install Ubuntu Gnome Desktop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This seems to solve some of the issues with GDM3 not starting up.<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop<\/pre>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is not meant to be a how to, but rather a compilation commands that could be helpful in trying to fix issues with the login screen after an upgrade.
