{"id":1105,"date":"2015-07-24T00:49:51","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T00:49:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/?p=1105"},"modified":"2015-07-24T00:49:51","modified_gmt":"2015-07-24T00:49:51","slug":"increase-hard-disk-size-on-windows-vm-in-xenserver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/increase-hard-disk-size-on-windows-vm-in-xenserver\/","title":{"rendered":"Increase hard disk size on Windows VM in XenServer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To increase a Windows VM disk size you&#8217;ll first need to shut down the VM and then increase the disk size from XenCenter.\u00a0 When you boot back up into the VM, the extra space shows up as unallocated.\u00a0 All that needs to be done is the main partition needs to be extended.<\/p>\n<p>Open up the Windows Disk Management Utility.\u00a0 You can do this by clicking on the start button, typing in disk management and hit enter.\u00a0 This will bring up the Disk Management program.<\/p>\n<p>In disk manager, you should see the Unallocated space at the end of Disk 0, i.e. your main drive.\u00a0 Right click on your main partition (C:) and click Extend Volume.\u00a0 You will be presented with a wizard that will walk you through extending your disk.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>Before increasing the VM&#8217;s disk size.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1110\" src=\"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/01.png\" alt=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/01.png 560w, https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/01-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/01-408x300.png 408w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The unallocated space is the extra space that we added via XenCenter.\u00a0 Right click on the middle partition (C:), and click extend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1111\" src=\"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11.png\" alt=\"1\" width=\"584\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11.png 632w, https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11-449x300.png 449w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After were are finished extending the partition, we see that our main partition is about 8GB larger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/31.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1112\" src=\"http:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/31.png\" alt=\"3\" width=\"560\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/31.png 560w, https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/31-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/www.incredigeek.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/31-408x300.png 408w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To increase a Windows VM disk size you&#8217;ll first need to shut down the VM and then increase the disk size from XenCenter.\u00a0 When you boot back up into the VM, the extra space shows up as unallocated.\u00a0 All that &hellip;
